This is, what I call, just plain plagiarism. Remember that term from school? If you copy someone else’s work or writing without permission or without noting their name and giving credit for them, etc., this is what we would be accused or punished for. Not with AI though? I don’t see the difference! What happened to putting your own personal touch to your writing? When you know or can tell who is writing the piece. That’s what I miss. It lacks this as I said, as well as your ability to tell a story, or even to give facts. It’s like you said, completely disingenuous. Where’s having pride in your character and for what you’ve done for your work? To me, if it’s written in AI, it should be quoted as such, and also given credit for. Okay, I said my peace, and those were my own words.
Haha I love this Danielle! I can feel the frustration (in your own words!) coming through! I feel just as strongly and it’s actually nice to hear I’m not the only one whos thinking this! I totally agree!
Nina I am absolutely with you on this! AI generated work has been finding its way into my classroom where I teach English literature for so e time … and it’s so obvious ! It’s my job and passion to teach the art of appreciating, and writing about, beautiful pieces of writing. Not to mention teaching creative, individually composed writing. What’s even more disturbing is that talented kids are using AI. We are going to miss out on a generation of untapped, natural potential. Tearing my hair out ! 😤 By the way., your writing is far from basic as you put it. It’s always beautifully written, honest and authentic ❤️Karen, New Zealand.
That’s so nice to hear Karen! I’m glad you like my work! I can totally imagine the frustration you have with this issue! It’s such a shame that kids have to ‘think’ less as time goes on! I think what makes it worse are adults on substack who really should know better!
That’s is so sad. People should use their own voice in their articles. It’s Substack it’s not the New York Times. Do the best you can write the piece and then scan it thru ChatGpt for ideas and corrections. So sad.
