I went in for a HydroFacial and left with a completely different face. Well, sort of. Let me explain.
A few weeks ago, I had my usual dermatology appointment booked, a HydroFacial, followed by Botox, just my standard maintenance. Ultimately I want my skin to look fresh and glowy, and dealing with texture and all the other joys of getting older…I like to keep on top of anything that could help, so these treatments are usually my go-to.
But when I sat down with my dermatologist, (Dr Mansi from Kaya Skin Clinic) I casually mentioned that I’d been dealing with some hormonal acne along my jawline. Nothing major, but those annoying little breakouts that pop up and then just keep going, usually before my period, and just kind of linger. If you’ve ever had hormonal acne, you know what I mean…it’s not just a random pimple that disappears in a day or two. These are deeper, more stubborn, kind of hurt, and they like to hang around. And the worst part? Even after they’re gone, they can leave behind marks that take forever to fade. That’s what I’ve been dealing with.
The second I mentioned it, my dermatologist barely let me finish my sentence before saying, ‘Let’s switch your HydroFacial to an Aerolase treatment.’ I’d never heard of it, but she said it with so much certainty that I just nodded and went with it, plus I trust my life with this woman…well, skin. She knows my skin better than I do at this point.
Now, I’ll be honest…I had no idea what I was signing up for. I had never even heard of Aerolase before that. But I trust her, so I didn’t even ask too many questions. I figured, worst case, it wouldn’t do much, and I’d just rebook my HydroFacial later. But wow… I was not prepared for what happened next.
The treatment itself was surprisingly quick. If you’ve ever had laser treatments before, you might be expecting something painful, but Aerolase wasn’t like that at all. It felt like little bursts of hot air across my skin…like tiny, quick puffs of heat, but nothing uncomfortable. No burning, no stinging. Just a warm, tingling sensation as the laser worked its magic.
And then it was over. As she handed me the mirror with an expression of excitement, I was kind of expecting my face to be very red and had already written off the day, thinking I’d have to hide from the world for 24hrs. Well…there was no redness, no irritation…just my skin, looking shockingly better than it did 10 minutes before. I need to reitirate this…it was drastically different.
That particular day, I couldn’t really take a before and after as I had my botox right after so I was inevitably red. But I once I had my second treatment…I took a before and after pic, and the difference was crazy. The before was taken right before the treatment, and the after was literally just a couple of hours later, once I was home. My skin already looked calmer, less inflamed, and so much more even. It was like someone had taken a filter and smoothed everything out in real life.
I want to explain exactly what my skin is like (apart from the bits I’ve already mentioned like hormonal acne), that that way you’ll understand why the transformation shocked me. My skin can get quite dull quickly - not sure if this is down to the fact I apply, remove and reapply makeup so much, but that can’t be helped. It’s my job. I can get a little congestion on my cheeks and I deal with a lot of pigmentation issues, sun spots etc. So when I say I was shocked at how bright, luminous and glowy my skin looked…I’m not exaggerating.
But here’s where it gets even better - over the next few days and weeks, my skin just kept improving. The breakouts faded faster than usual, my skin texture felt smoother, and the little bits of pigmentation from old spots started to lighten. And then I noticed something weird… my facial hair wasn’t growing back as fast. A few random hairs literally just fell out. I wasn’t expecting that at all, but I’m definitely not mad about it.
You should wait about 4-5 weeks between treatments to let your skin do its thing, but I’m already counting down the days until my third one. Now, after two sessions, I can officially say this treatment has transformed my skin. It basically does everything…targets acne, smooths out texture, fades pigmentation, boosts collagen, and even helps with redness. And the best part? No downtime. No peeling, no irritation, no avoiding people for a week while my skin recovers. Just clear, glowy skin that keeps getting better over time.
Always trust your dermatologist (but do your due diligence and research on them first), and don’t be afraid to try something new (if you trust them). Because if I had stuck to my usual HydroFacial, I would’ve completely missed out on one of the best skin treatments I’ve ever had. If you’ve been dealing with stubborn breakouts, pigmentation, or just feel like your skin needs a reset, Aerolase might just be the thing you didn’t know you needed.
