I recently visited Singapore for a second time. My first time visiting was for a two-day stopover where we pretty much did a lot of the obvious stuff like Universal Studios etc. This time around, we wanted to explore the city a bit better and we had 5 days to do it.
Here are my top picks that I think you’d enjoy if you love exploring….and walking!
Newton food center - A hawker heaven and always buzzing! This little gem has always been a popular meet-up for good food for the locals and tourists, but it was its appearance on ‘Crazy Rich Asians’ that made it a widely known hot spot. You’ll find numerous Michelin star hawker stands that quite clearly specialize in specific foods. We went to one of the Michelin star stands that was known for its Satay chicken and wings. It was some of the best chicken satay I’ve ever tried with a chilli sauce I think they should bottle and sell!
Marina Bay Sands mall - Now, I know exploring doesn’t technically include malls, but this is a good mall to spend the afternoon at if you need a break from the outside world and want to do a bit of luxury shopping. It’s a pretty big mall with nearly every luxury brand you can think of. They have an indoor Gondola ride that is a nice (but short) scenic route around the mall.
Singapore Zoo - This was a great day out, a lot of walking but so much fun! You’d be better off booking tickets online as it’s cheaper and you can opt for one of the other parks as an add-on. We added the River Wonders as we wanted to see the Panda which was located in the River Wonders park. I’m always skeptical about zoos because it’s awful seeing animals malnourished or not properly looked after, however, this was one of the best-kept zoos I’ve visited (not that I’ve visited many). It was an amazing experience seeing all the wildlife, sea life, and animals.
Chinatown - This is a rich and colorful part of Singapore with so much heritage and culture. The upkeep has been amazing within Chinatown, everything looks clean and well-kept. You’ll see an array of trendy bars, cafes and restaurants along with the odd temple and museum. Everywhere you walk, you come across vibrant parts of the neighbourhood.
