Today, I want to share something personal with you all: how moving to a new country completely transformed my perspective on life. If you’ve ever considered a big move or even just traveling to a new place, I hope my story will inspire you to take that leap.
When I first moved to Dubai, I was filled with excitement but also a fair amount of apprehension. Leaving behind the familiar comforts of home and stepping into the unknown can be daunting. But it's precisely in this uncertainty that I found growth. Every challenge, from navigating a new city to understanding a different culture, pushed me to expand my horizons and adapt in ways I never thought possible.
Dubai is a melting pot of cultures, and living here has given me a front-row seat to incredible diversity. From the vibrant traditional souks to the ultramodern skyline, every corner of the city tells a different story. Interacting with people from all over the world has opened my eyes to new customs, traditions, and ways of life. It's been a humbling experience to learn about different cultures, and it's made me appreciate the richness of our world.
Moving to a new country also forces you to become more independent. You learn to rely on yourself in ways you might not have before. All of the everyday challenges that get thrown at you help to build a sense of confidence and self-assurance…eventually! I've become more resilient and capable, knowing that I can face challenges head-on and come out stronger on the other side.
I think the biggest change has been the shift in my perspective. Living in a new country has given me a broader view of the world and a deeper understanding of different issues. It's made me more empathetic and open-minded, qualities that have influenced both my personal and professional life. I've learned to appreciate the beauty of diversity and the importance of inclusivity, both of which are integral to my work as a makeup artist and educator.
Change can be intimidating, but it's also incredibly beautiful. Moving to a new country has taught me to embrace change and see it as an opportunity for growth. It's pushed me out of my comfort zone and allowed me to discover new passions and interests. It's a journey that has shaped me into the person I am today, and for that, I am immensely grateful.
If you’ve ever thought about moving to a new country or even just visiting one, please go for it! The experiences you gain, the people you meet, and the lessons you learn will be invaluable. It's a chance to see the world from a new perspective and to grow in ways you never imagined.
Trust me when I say, you will become a better version of yourself and will wonder why you didn’t do it sooner!
I lived in Mexico Puerto Vallarta and the UK both were great experiences. I learned so much about myself and that I could do it. I fell in love with both countries. I was just about to move to Nepal to live and work in an orphanage, when I started to get very sick. I had to cancel my trip/move because my Dr’s wouldn’t allow me to go.
I was heartbroken.
I definitely will need to move to a new country once we retire. Living in the states social security and 41k won’t be enough for people to live on. Everything has gotten incredibly expensive and I just don’t see myself retiring here. I’ve been thinking of Portugal or Spain. Y cousin is preparing to retire in Spain. Our ancestors country so I might follow that route.
