I don’t look back at 30 and think I was old, because I really wasn’t…although I wish I didn’t think that back then. I actually look back now and think I was so young. I think that’s the funny thing about getting older. You realize the ages you once thought sounded grown up were actually still so early, and there were so many things I could’ve done then that would’ve made life easier now.
I’ve always looked after myself in some way, and I’ve always loved beauty and feeling put together. But at 46, I can see very clearly which things I wish I’d started earlier. The small things you do for years really do add up.
Mobility and stretching
This is one of the biggest things I wish I’d taken seriously earlier. I don’t even think I knew much about it back then. When you’re younger, you stretch for about 30 seconds because you naturally do it when you wake up. For most of the time you ignore it completely because your body still lets you get away with it. Then you get older and realize your hips, back, shoulders, hamstrings, ankles and even your feet all have to be looked after in different ways.
