How To Stop Foundation From Clinging To Texture
Foundation clinging to texture is one of those makeup problems that makes people immediately blame the foundation. And sometimes it can be the foundation. Some formulas just don’t work well on certain skin types or it could even be your skin prep which I very recently did a newsletter on. But I thought I’d focus more on how you do things when your problem is as specific as clinging foundation and texture.
Firstly…texture is normal. Everyone has pores, little bumps, dryness, fine lines, or areas that aren’t completely smooth. The problem is when foundation starts grabbing onto those areas and making them look more obvious than they actually are.
The aim isn’t to make your skin look filtered in real life, because that’s not realistic. The aim is to help foundation sit more smoothly so it doesn’t catch on every dry patch, pore, line, or bit of unevenness.
Start With Gentle Exfoliation
If foundation keeps clinging to texture, look at whether there’s buildup sitting on the surface of your skin. Dead skin cells, dry patches, and rough areas will always make foundation grab.
I don’t mean scrubbing your face right before makeup. That usually makes things worse. I mean having some kind of gentle exfoliation in your routine so your skin stays smoother over time.
It could be a gentle acid, an exfoliating cleanser, or whatever your skin can tolerate. The key is not overdoing it, because over exfoliated skin can look just as bad under makeup because it becomes tight, shiny, irritated, and textured in a different way. You don’t want to strip your skin of moisture.
