Over the years, I’ve learned that getting makeup to last in this the heat or humidity isn’t about one magic product. It’s about using the right formulas, prepping your skin properly, and applying makeup in a way that keeps everything in place for as long as possible.

Here’s the full routine I use on myself and my clients when makeup needs to last all day in extreme heat.

Step 1: Prep the skin properly

Your base will only last if your skincare sets it up to.

  • Use a lightweight, oil-free moisturizer that hydrates without leaving residue.

  • Apply a primer that grips rather than just blurs. It should feel slightly tacky so makeup can hold onto it.

  • Choose a sunscreen with a fluid or gel texture so it doesn’t make your skin greasy before you even start.

Step 2: Choose the right foundation formula

Heavy foundations and thick layers don’t work in this heat. They break down quickly and end up looking patchy.

  • Apply in thin layers, only where you need coverage.

  • Pick a long-wear formula that resists heat and humidity but still looks natural and that isn’t full coverage.

  • Use a damp makeup sponge to press the foundation in so it bonds with the skin instead of sitting on top. You can use a hydrating spray to dampen the sponge instead of water.
