Finally, a chic beach destination
What I really mean is beach club, but let's stick with beach destination because, for some reason in my mind, the term beach club takes it down a notch.
I’ll be honest, the minute someone suggests going to a beach club, my panic sets in. For some reason, I associate beach clubs with somewhere I really don’t want to be. You can put it down to age or call me boring, I just don’t want to be surrounded by a crowd that makes me question society. I’m not saying everyone who goes to a beach club is a certain way, but I guess the word beach club makes me think of somewhere like five (if you know you know), and that's the last place I would ever want to be.
So when I received an invitation to Drift beach, I accepted it, but I was so busy during that week that I forgot to check the place out online to see if it’s somewhere I’d even want to go. And it was only on my way to Drift beach, that I found some time to see what the place was about, which is when I realized it’s also referred to as a beach club, so you can imagine my thoughts.
We were booked for lunch, followed by a private cabana to chill by the pool. Drift beach is located in the One & Only Royal Mirage, and as soon as we drove up, I realized I had been there before. I vaguely recall going there for a beauty press event that was held in the restaurant overlooking the pool. As soon as we walked in, it all came flooding back, and I remembered how much I loved the place and wanted to revisit it with my husband when we had time. Needless to say, we didn’t get around to it, and I completely forgot.
We went on a Friday afternoon, and as soon as we walked in, the vibe was thankfully chic and classy, paired with great music. We sat down to have lunch, and immediately I felt comfortable. I loved the stunning view from the restaurant, which was very open and airy with subtle Mediterranean vibes. We ordered barata and carpaccio for starters, followed by seabass on a bed of baby potatoes with steak and hand-cut fries. Considering this wasn’t a steakhouse, the steak was impeccable.
Once we finished our dessert, we headed to the cabana and settled in for a relaxing pool day. The restaurant and pool almost feel intertwined, but in a good way. And if I had to describe the colors, they would be shades of white and blue, which is what gives it a Mediterranean feel. I ordered myself some fresh watermelon juice and soaked up the sun. Even though the music was loud, it wasn’t too loud and wasn’t annoying at all.
This definitely made me reevaluate my opinion on beach clubs; however, I would probably still do my research if I’m trying out a new place. I would 100% go back to Drift beach, and I would highly recommend this place if there is a group of you going. It’s a place that somehow checks all the boxes when it comes to a beach club, yet you can also relax and feel chilled.
