Summer dresses are one of those things that sound easy in theory, but I actually think they’re quite hard to get right. You want something that feels effortless, but not too casual. Comfortable, but still put together. Light enough for the heat, but not so flimsy that it only works on holiday. And ideally, something you can throw on with flat sandals in the day, then make look a bit more elevated with better accessories in the evening.
I also think the best summer dresses are the ones that do most of the work for you. The kind of dress you can put on when you don’t have the energy to think about an outfit, but still want to look like you made an effort. Good shape, good fabric, easy styling, and not one of those dresses that needs the perfect bra or lighting just to make it work.
